You may have noticed there is a new forum section for A Healed Planet.
Since my most recent mass e-mailing to members, Wade Frazier and I have been corresponding. He wants to hold an important discussion in a few months, and I want it to be held here. For this reason, I asked Mat to help set up a more secure forum area, and I have created a new 'role' -- 'advanced user'.
If you are reading this as a non-member, or as a member who has not signed in, your current role is 'anonymous user'. If you're signed in, your role is 'authenticated user'. However only if your role has been upgraded to 'advanced' will you be able to participate in the Healed Planet forum. You can read what is posted there, but not reply to anything or create new topics within that space.
The other two forum sections are unaffected by this change. Authenticated users can still post at will -- just not within the new section.
Of course I resisted this action, because I do think this site should be available to all. The problem is that where Wade goes, trouble tends to follow. The forum where this upcoming discussion is to be held, therefore, has to have some level of security. If we could not offer a secure forum, Wade (and those he plans to invite) would have to go elsewhere.
Nothing will get in your way of starting a new topic under General Discussion and speaking your mind about what is being discussed in the new section, so this is not really much of a restriction -- it's merely a precaution against the kind of attacks and derailments Wade has faced in the past.
Members will be upgraded to 'advanced' on a case-by-case basis. For now, please don't ask for upgrades -- the discussion will not begin, most likely, until this Autumn.
The stage is set...
This may be considered an unusual request, but Wade has told me that anonymity "does not align with the ideal" of his planned forum -- so we will be asking members to use their real names within the Healed Planet forum.
As for myself, I consider "filsmyth" to be a better identifier than "Phil Smith", and I enjoy being able to use the 3-letter username "fil" here... I won't ask anyone to change his or her username, but you may want to provide your real names on your member profiles, and/or your signatures.
I'm not going to go by "Philip", and Rocky, those of us who already know you don't call you "Rachelle". Your 'real name' doesn't have to be the one your parents gave you.
Again, this effects only those who wish to participate in the Healed Planet forums under an 'advanced user' status.
Contact me privately for an 'upgrade'.
