making the best use of this site

The subject line has more than one meaning...

The 3rd link from the right at the top of the page, Recent posts, is something I personally click on every time I visit this site.  It's the best way to find the latest content.  For example, right now it will show that I left a new comment on the blog entry 'important audio', which is more than halfway down the page.  It's easy to miss such things if you don't click on that link.

Since members will only receive e-mails related to this site on those rare occasions that I feel like sending out an 'update', it is strongly suggested that you bookmark the site and return frequently (or as I do, keep it as an open tab).

New memberships are not finalized until new members follow up on their confirmation e-mails.  If you have joined but not confirmed, your username will not show up in the members' list, you will not be able to post content, and you will not be on the mailing list for those aforementioned sporadic 'updates'.

Once a member, please take a moment to sign in when visiting the site.  You never know, there might be a private message waiting for you.  If you have forgotten your password, a one-time login link can quickly be sent to your e-mail through an automatic process, and you can select a new password after following that link.

The Rainy Day Store banner at the top of the right-hand column is (and is likely to remain) the only advertising here.  The Rainy Day Store is a small business run from home by our gracious host Yaddoshi and his wife -- and so, in an indirect manner, the continuation of this site is somewhat dependent upon their success.  The Nation of Earth member site is free, and we want to keep it that way, and we won't be asking for any donations -- but if it is your desire to lend financial support in some way, there's nothing stopping you from overbidding on some Rainy Day items.

Now, about that other meaning...

This is a MEMBER SITE, with the potential to become an online community.  Membership is free and wide-open, and members are encouraged to post content at will.  It is a site for the People of Earth, and that means YOU.

What is this site's best use?  Already, there has been some valuable discussion both within the forums and in the comments to various blog entries.  I try to provide helpful content, often referring to A Healed Planet and Project Camelot.  If this site can help anyone at all to better understand where we are and where we are headed, awesome.

If discussions held here can help in a larger way, beautiful.

We have an opportunity to help smooth out the process of Transition.  We have an incredible, wonderful future ahead of us -- but we have to figure out how to get there.

Make waves.

spam

Tonight I found an unrelated comment and an obviously commercial blog post from a new member, whom I banned with extreme prejudice (offending content has been removed).

While this site IS open to anyone and everyone, it is NOT a place for anyone to just drop in with the purpose of selling something.  This person didn't even have anything to say that wasn't related to the product (if it was a real person at all).

All forms of spam have been and will be dealt with as they appear.

sticky

Was thinking maybe I should compose a new welcome message and make it 'sticky at top of list'.  A little more thought brought me to search for an existing message that would suffice.  Found the one above published on Cinco de Mayo...

This entry and these comments will (until they are replaced) always remain at the top of the home page -- so if anyone would like to leave a message for vistiors and fellow members alike, reply here.
